Weight Loss is Easier When You Get Enough Zzzzzzzzs

Updated: Feb 7, 2021

When it comes to weight loss, or staying in shape, it's important to get enough sleep. With all the craziness going on this past year, it seems stress levels are higher than ever and that can translate into some sleepless nights. When you don't get enough rest, cortisol levels increase and that can mean added pounds around the middle. Yikes!

I Think the Cats Have it Right

Get adequate sleep.

For most of us its 7 1/2 to 9 hours and it can and will vary. We’re not machines, so if you wear yourself out in some way during that particular day or week, its normal to expect to need to sleep more.

Ditch the Alarm Clock: That’s the trouble with using an alarm clock to get up at the same time every day. Our daily and weekly activities can vary so it makes sense our sleep would also. If we try to force ourselves to function on less sleep than our bodies want we can feel that all day and if we try to offset that with coffee, we’re just pushing out a payback to your body that can take days to straighten out.

Of course exercising daily will help you fall asleep and stay asleep. The body is more relaxed when you get that cardio and those stretches in. Simple movements can really help. Join my Zoom Fitness Class and do gentle workouts right from the comfort of your own home.

Try a Lavendar Bath before bed. Studies show lavendar has many soothing properties including helping us to relax and release stress. A hot lavender bath with some Epsom Salts will also detoxify your body, soothe your muscles, quiet your mind and release all the stress from the day.
